Welcome to the Shawnee County Appraiser’s Web Site. Here, we provide extensive information about real property values and characteristics. Please feel free to explore our site. It is provided as a service to you and is intended to assist you in better understanding our purpose and the services we provide.
The Appraiser’s Office is assigned the task of appraising (estimating the most probable selling price) real estate and personal property for tax purposes (see our Mission Statement below). The County Appraiser does not set, nor does he collect taxes. After the County Appraiser has valued all the property in the county, the values are certified and transferred to the County Clerk. Once all of the taxing units (schools, cities, townships, county, library, etc.) set their budgets, the County Clerk uses the budgets and valuations for each taxing unit to calculate mill levies. Then the individual tax statements are printed and the County Treasurer collects property taxes.
Here at the Appraiser’s Web site we provide you services that allow you to look up the appraised values of residential and commercial properties. You will also find information about the property’s characteristics. There is also a link to the County Treasurer’s property tax information. Additionally, there are several links to other related web sites that may be of interest.
