The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Offi ce Crime Prevention Academy is designed to promote and educate the citizens of Topeka and Shawnee County on how to avoid becoming a victim of crime, and how to recognize ways to limit opportunities for crime to occur by utilizing our agency’s resources, knowledge, and skills in the area of crime prevention.

Course Activities and Scheduling

The Crime Prevention Academy will be conducted periodically and will meet one night a week for 14 weeks. The Crime Prevention Academy’s will be hosted in area community centers. Program topics include overviews of the following:

  • Introduction to Crime/Broken Windows Theory
  • Home Security/Personal Security
  • Homeland Security/Emergency Preparedness
  • ID Theft/Financial Crimes/Computer Crimes
  • Traffic Safety/Road Rage
  • Business Security/Counterfeit Detection
  • Drug Recognition
  • Domestic Violence/Workplace Violence
  • Neighborhood Watch Program
  • Scams/Fraud/Crimes Against Seniors
  • Graduation
