Vehicle Flipped Leaving Seat-belted Man Uninjured, Many Other Non-injury Accidents and Slide-offs Reported this Morning
This morning, at approximately 6:56 am, Shawnee County Sheriff Deputies responded to a one-vehicle accident near US hwy 40 & SE Shawnee Heights Rd. When Deputies arrived they found a 2007 Chevy Avalanche upside down in a creek bed just west of the intersection.
The driver, Brian N. Yoakum, 35, of Tecumseh, was northbound on SE Shawnee Heights Rd. and attempted to turn onto Hwy 40 from Shawnee Heights rd. when he lost control of the vehicle and slid off the highway overturning into a narrow creek. A motorist who witnessed the accident stopped and helped Mr. Yoakum get out of the vehicle.
Mr. Yoakum was not injured in the crash and was wearing his seatbelt. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Today between 6:30 am and 10:45 am Deputies responded to 18 non-injury accidents. Several of the reported accidents were one-vehicle slide-offs that resulted in vehicle damage. Many non-accident slide-offs were reported as well.
